The Maritime Museum's annual weekly Summer Concert Series kicks off on June 7th with John Roberts, a veteran performer who hails originally from the U.K. John has made New England his home over the last few decades. Back in the late 1960s, while at Cornell University, he teamed up with fellow student Tony Barrand and toured the country singing traditional English folk music. Now working as a solo act most of the time, Roberts accompanies himself on guitar, banjo and concertina, although his occasional a cappella numbers often garner the most applause. Known for his sensitive interpretation of folk songs old and new—as well as his delightful sense of humor—he is always quick to tell the story behind the song, making his presentations all the more compelling. A “regular” at events like the Mystic (CT) Seaport Music Festival and The Old Songs Festival outside Schenectady, NY, this will be Roberts’ first-ever appearance at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum. Take a listen to samples of some of his songs at www.goldenhindmusic.com.
