Chesapeake Bay Foundation Student Leadership Program at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum & Environmental Center
The Environmental Center at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum is proud to have hosted the CBF’s Student Leadership Program on Friday, August 3rd. The program is meant for students to explore the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and engage with organizations that are advocates for the health of the Bay, connecting them with leaders in Bay advocacy throughout the region. We were honored that CBF reached out to us about the wonderful opportunity.
Bruce Russell, President of the Board at the Maritime Museum, gave the 15 students and two teachers a tour of our museum focussing on exhibits which have a direct impact on our local Bay ecosystem. Mr. Russell then showed the students our Environmental Center gallery, where they discussed exhibits such as our submerged aquatic vegetation tank, our Upper Bay ecosystems tanks, interactive exhibits, and our pollution exhibits. He then took the students out through our nature trail and around the promenade to show the students the location of the Riparian Restoration project and living shoreline. The students continued walking the promenade and further discussed our role in advocating for the Upper Bay and Susquehanna Flats. The group enjoyed eating their lunches outside in our classroom area.
We are grateful to have been recognized by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Student Leadership Program as a regional expert on local watershed issues. Special thanks to Megan Fink and Kellie Rogers from the CBF for reaching out to us for this wonderful opportunity.
